Herons come-from-behind against Naz, 2-1

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The William Smith College soccer team needed a pair of second half goals to squeak past Nazareth College, 2-1, in the Elizabethtown College Blue Jay Classic. Senior Tatiana Korba (Wooster/Wooster, Ohio) netted the decisive score in the 78th minute.

Ranked 11th in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America preseason poll, the Herons trailed at halftime thanks to a Golden Flyer goal in the 38th minute by Melanie Northrup.

Junior Brianna Tindall (Poultney/Castleton, Vt.) netted the equalizer in the 60th minute. It was her second goal of the season. Korba came through with the game-winner 18 minutes later thanks to an assist by first-year Kristen Falzarano (Morristown/Morris Plains, N.J.).

Sophomore Leah Cornwell (Wheatland-Chili/Scottsville, N.Y.) earned the win in goal with four saves. Mandi Heaviside made four stops for Nazareth.

The Herons return to action on Sun., Sept. 5, when they face the College of New Jersey at 1 p.m., game in the second day of the Blue Jay Classic. TCNJ is ranked second in the NSCAA preseason poll and defeated Elizabethtown 1-0 today.
