Box Score GENEVA, N.Y. -- The SUNY-Fredonia hockey team got a pair of goals and an assist from sophomore Dave Barnett (Grosse Point Woods, Mich.) and skated past Hobart Statesmen 4-1 this evening at the Geneva Recreation Complex. The Statesmen fall to 3-10 on the season, while the Blue Devils improve to 6-8-1.
Fredonia got on the board first midway through the first period thanks to a goal by junior Dave Mugavero (Sualt Ste. Marie, Mich.). Five minutes later the Blue Devils added to their lead on a short-handed goal by junior Erik Dolesh (Farmington Hills, Mich.).
Hobart broke the shutout right after the first intermission, when junior Tim McCarthy (Cazenovia, N.Y.) scored his team-leading seventh goal of the season. Barnett scored the first of his two tallies late in the second frame to give Fredonia a two-goal cushion and added another goal early in the third period.
Junior Jamie Kosecki (Syracuse, N.Y.) made 32 saves for the Blue Devils, while junior Tony Rodriguez (Lake Placid, N.Y.) made 35 stops for the Statesmen.
Hobart returns to action on Fri., Jan. 14, when it hosts SUNY-Potsdam at 7:30 p.m.
