GENEVA, N.Y. -- The Hobart College basketball team recorded its fourth straight victory this afternoon with a 96-71 win over visiting St. Lawrence University. Senior Rob Pisanelli (Our Lady of Lourdes/Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) led the way with a game-high 27 points on 10-of-16 shooting, including a pair of three-pointers.
The Statesmen (8-8, 4-3 UCAA) came out strong scoring the game's first 13 points, including a three-pointer and a jumper from sophomore Michael Gambino (Our Lady of Lourdes/Hyde Park, N.Y.). Gambino finished with 19 points.
The Saints (2-13, 0-6) managed to trim the lead to nine (19-10) with 13:41 remaining in the first half, but a Pisanelli jumper eight seconds later put the Hobart lead back in double digits for good. The Statesmen went into the locker room leading 52-30, and never led by less than 20 points after the intermission.
Hobart held St. Lawrence to just 41.8 percent from the floor, while scorching the nets for 56.2 percent themselves, including 64.7 percent (22-of-34) in the first half. The Statesmen also held a 41-34 advantage on the glass and forced the Saints into four more turnovers (17-13).
First-year sensation Joe Corbett (Haverford School/Philadelphia, Pa.) notched his fifth double-double of the season with a career-high 19 points to go with a game-high 13 rebounds. Classmate Davidek Herron (Schenectady/Schenectady, N.Y.) had a perfect day from the field, knocking down all four of his field goal attempts and finishing with nine points, five rebounds, and three blocked shots.
First-years J.D. Delmonico (CBA/Skaneateles, N.Y.) and J.J. DeMarco (Xavier/Rockaway, N.Y.) both reached double digits for St. Lawrence with 13 and 11 points, respectively.
The Statesmen return to action at 8 p.m., on Wed., Jan. 26, when they travel to Keuka College for a game originally scheduled for Jan. 5.
