GENEVA, N.Y.--The William Smith College field hockey team knocked off top-ranked Lebanon Valley College this afternoon, 2-0. Junior goalie Marjie MacVean (Johnstown/Johnstown, N.Y.) made nine saves to earn her fifth shutout of the season.
Sophomore Erin Weir (Blair Academy/Califon, N.J.) opened the scoring with 11:33 remaining in the first half, driving home a feed from junior Nicky Livingston (Whitney Point/Whitney Point, N.Y.). Sophomore Sheila McKevitt (Clinton/Clinto, N.Y.) added an insurance goal with 11:55 remaining in the second frame.
The previously undefeated Dutchwomen (14-1) had their best chance to score in the second half, when Natalie Taylor teed up a penalty stroke with about 10 minutes remaining, but MacVean made the stop to preserve the shutout.
The fourth-ranked Herons (14-1) have won 14 consecutive games and will return to action on Fri., Oct. 20, when they host St. Lawrence University at 4 p.m.
