Hamilton halts Hobart's streak at six, 100-93

GENEVA, N.Y. -- The Hobart College basketball team had its six-game win streak stopped tonight by visiting Hamilton College by a score of 100-93 in a match up of the top two teams in the UCAA. The Statesmen are now 10-9 on the season, 4-4 in the UCAA, while the Continentals improve to 13-2, 10-0 in the UCAA.

Hamilton jumped out to a fast start, out scoring Hobart 18-3 in the first five minutes of the contest, but the Statesmen came charging back with a 12-0 run of their own to close to within three, 18-15. The Continentals never relinquished their lead, which fluctuated between as many as 13 (6:38 in the 2nd) and as few as one (:52 in the 1st). Hamilton couldn't deliver the knock out punch, but at the same time the Statesmen couldn't take the lead.

The Continentals shot a torrid 55.6 percent from the floor for the game, including a 20-of-35 performance in the second half. Hamilton put six players in double digits, led by first-year Joe Finley's (Brooklyn, N.Y.) 20 points.

Hobart hung tough thanks in part to a 53 percent shooting effort by the three-point arc (8-of-15). Senior Rob Pisanelli (Our Lady of Lourdes/Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) led all scorers with 33 points on 8-of-18 shooting, including 5-of-8 from beyond the arc, and a 12-of-15 performance from the charity stripe. He also dished out a team-high seven assists.

First-years Davidek Herron (Schenectady/Schenectady, N.Y.) and Joe Corbett (Haverford School/Philadelphia, N.Y.) both contributed double-doubles to the Hobart effort. Herron had 15 points and 10 boards, while Corbett scored 13 and grabbed 10 caroms. The Statesmen held a 42-31 advantage on the glass.

Sophomore Michael Gambino (Our Lady of Lourdes/Hyde Park, N.Y.) and junior Kevin Leonardo (Coxsackie-Athens/Coxsackie, N.Y.) also reached double digits for Hobart, scoring 11 and 10 points, respectively.

The Statesmen return to action at 4 p.m., on Sat., Feb. 5, when they travel to league rival Rensselaer.
