Box Score GENEVA, N.Y. -- First-year Matt Daley (Rutland, Vt.) had one goal and two assists, and junior Matt Pane (St. James, N.Y.) recorded three assists to lead the Hobart College hockey team to a 5-1 win over visiting Skidmore College. The Statesmen improved to 5-17-1, while the Thoroughbreds (2-16-2) suffered their seventh consecutive loss.
Daley commenced the afternoon's scoring with his second goal of the season, on assists from classmate Charlie Gerbron (Kennett Square, Pa.) and Pane at the 11:34 mark of the opening period. Daley, along with Pane, returned the favor by assisting Gerbron with 59 seconds remaining in the first.
Junior Tim McCarthy (Cazenovia, N.Y.) netted his 12th goal of the year off a pass from junior Zach Mundy (Cranston, R.I.) to increase Hobart's lead to 3-0 midway through the second stanza. Five minutes later, Pane and first-year Brad Boyer (Old Tappan, N.J.) assisted on senior Travis Finkle's (Youngstown, N.Y.) team-leading 13th goal of the season.
Finkle tied current Manhattanville College Head Coach Keith Levinthal '95 as the most prolific goal scorer in Hobart history with his 72nd career tally. The Statesmen host Levinthal's Valiants on Sat., Feb. 19, at 4 p.m., in their regular season home finale.
Skidmore first-year defenseman Jon Colozzo's (Arlington, Mass.) power-play goal off a feed from classmate Joe Hooker (Kennett Square, Pa.) occurred five minutes into the third period. Senior Scott Frein (Camillus, N.Y.) added his fifth goal of the year on Daley's final point of the day with just under 10 minutes left.
Hobart junior Sam Weiner (Philadelphia, Pa.) stopped 38 Thoroughbred shots on goal, while Skidmore sophomore Joel Kulina (E. Windsor, N.J.) registered 42 saves.
