Seniors lead Herons to fourth consecutive overall, 79th straight at home

Box Score GENEVA, N.Y. -- Senior guard Liz Brown (Marcus Whitman/Rushville, N.Y.) scored a team-high 17 points and the William Smith College basketball team limited Mount St. Mary College to 23.3 percent field goal shooting in a convincing 80-45 victory on Senior Day at Bristol Gym. Brown also had seven rebounds, three assists, and four steals to lift the Herons (18-4) to their 79th consecutive home court win, the longest active streak in collegiate basketball.

William Smith, ranked second in the NCAA Division III East Region, used a 13-0 run and hit 7-of-14 from three-point territory to take a 42-18 halftime lead. Brown scored 14 points and sophomore JeanneMarie Vinchiarello (Our Lady of Lourdes/Dover Plains, N.Y.) netted 10 in the opening 20 minutes. In the second half, the Herons limited the Lady Knights (16-4) to 21.6 percent from the floor.

Brown hit 5-of-9 field goals, including 4-of-6 from beyond the arc, and moved into fifth place on the William Smith career scoring list with 1,228 points. Seniors Liz Masten (Williamsport/Williamsport, Pa.) and Tricia Lockwood (Homer/Truxton, N.Y.) also turned in memorable performances in their final regular season home tilt. Masten scored seven points and tied a career-best with seven assists, while Lockwood added four points, three rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

Vinchiarello sank 5-of-7 field goal attempts, and 2-of-4 from long distance to match a career-high with 15 points. Junior Stephanie Benton (Spa Catholic/Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) also tied a career-high with 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting. Classmate Mollie Masten (Williamsport/Williamsport, N.Y.) contributed nine points and ripped down a team-high nine rebounds.

Mount St. Mary, No. 4 in the NCAA Division III East Region, was led by senior Kenya O'Kelley's (Amityville/Amityville, N.Y.) 11 points and game-high 17 boards. Junior Jenn Bradley (Methuen/Methuen, Mass.) scored a team-high 17 points to along with four steals, and senior Sara Liebi (Camden Central/Taberg, N.Y.) added 11 points.

The Herons return to action on Fri., Feb. 18, when they travel to Skidmore College for a 6 p.m. tip- off.
