Hobart Icers pick up 4-2 win

Box Score GENEVA, N.Y. -- The Hobart College hockey team avenged an earlier loss to Manhattanville College with a 4-2 victory at Geneva Recreation Complex. The Statesmen took an early lead and never relinquished it.

Hobart opened the scoring in the first period on a goal from junior Eric Christianson (Longmeadow, Mass.). On the power play, junior Tim McCarthy (Cazenovia, N.Y.) sent a pass out to the point where Christainson laced a slap shot over the right shoulder of Manhattanville goaltender Rob McShane. McCarthy kept the momentum going in the second period widening the Statesmen's lead to 2-0 with his 13th goal of the year.

The Valiants cut the lead in half near the end of the second period on a redirection shot that slipped through the legs of junior netminder Sam Weiner (Philadelphia, Pa.). The Statesmen answered three minutes later as junior Greg Reynholds (South Glastonbury, Conn.) came streaking down the ice and slipped the puck past the left side of McShane.

In the third period, the Valiants got on the board early, but once again Reynholds halted their comeback efforts with his second goal of the night off assists from senior Travis Finkle (Youngstown, N.Y.) and first-year Charlie Gerbron (Kennett Square, Pa.).

The Statesmen (6-17-1, 1-4-0 ECAC West) are back in action on Sat., Feb. 26, at Elmira College for their final game of the regular season. Faceoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
