Box Score ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The Hobart College lacrosse team recorded its first win in the Patriot League this afternoon with a 15-3 win over visiting Lafayette College in a game played on the turf field of Nazareth College. The Statesmen were led by the seven-point performances of senior attackman Jared Bebee (West Genesee/Syracuse, N.Y.) and junior midfielder Jamie Breslin (Mountain Lakes/Mountain Lakes, N.J.).
Hobart (1-1, 1-1 Patriot League) wasted little time scoring the game's first goal. Junior midfielder Joe Leska (Vestal/Vestal, N.Y.) won the opening faceoff, carried the ball into the attack zone where he dished to Bebee, who fired home his second goal of the season. Bebee, who finished with a goal and a career-high six assists, has now scored at least a point in 29 consecutive games.
The Statesmen held a 4-0 advantage late in the first quarter, before the Leopards finally cracked the scoring column, and led 5-1 after 15 minutes. In the second quarter, Hobart outscored Lafayette 5-0, including the first three of four consecutive goals from Breslin. The Statesmen's top-returning scorer notched tallies at 2:33, 1:13, and 0:26 of the second frame, as well as the first goal of the second half. He finished with a career-high six goals and an assist.
Breslin's four-goal run would have been five, had the last of three goals by sophomore attackman Scott Harvey (Suffern/Suffern, N.Y.) not interrupted it. Breslin's final goal was set up by senior attackman Kevin DeWall (Waterloo/Waterloo, N.Y.), who posted two goals and three assists.
Hobart was truly dominant in all aspects of the game, outshooting Lafayette 40-17, holding a 51-35 advantage in ground balls, winning 17-of-21 faceoffs, and limiting the Leopards to just 17-of-41 clears.
Senior James Murtha (Manhasset/Manhasset, N.Y.) made the start in goal for Hobart, recording four saves in 45 minutes of work, while first-year Mike Borsz (West Genesee/Camillus, N.Y.), sophomore Hunter MacDonnell (Salisbury/Darien, Conn.), and sophomore Kayser Dixon (Avon Old Farms/Bedford, N.Y.) combined for four saves in the final stanza.
Junior attackman Kevin Bromby (Ipswich, Mass.) had a pair of goals for the Leopards (1-2, 0-1 PL), while junior Duncan Woodard (New Canaan, Conn.) and sophomore Mike Neary (Baldwin, Md.) combined to make 10 saves.
The Statesmen return to action on Wed., March 22, when they travel to Harvard for a 5 p.m., faceoff.
