Top-ranked Orangemen live up to billing

Box Score SYRACUSE, N.Y.--Junior Joe Leska struck first to give the lacrosse team a 1-0 lead, but the top-ranked Syracuse Orangemen responded with the next 10 goals. The Orangemen (5-0) led 12-3 at the break and cruised to an 18-6 win in the Carrier Dome.

Leska's dart came just 64 seconds into the game, but it was a lonely goal. The Syracuse defense kept Hobart scoreless over the next 22:01. By the time junior Jamie Breslin broke through the Orange wall with seven minutes remaining before the half, the Orangemen held a 10-2 lead.

It was 12-2 when Scott Harvey converted an extra man opportunity to close out the first half scoring.

Sophomore Dave Spratlen, senior Kevin DeWall, and first-year Adam Neary added second half scores en route to the final.

Senior goalie James Murtha made 12 saves in the first half, while first-year Mike Borsz stopped seven of the 13 shots he faced in the second half.
