GENEVA, N.Y. -- Senior Rebecca Armiger (Centennial/Baltimore, Md.) finished with a career-high eight points to lead the fourth-ranked William Smith College lacrosse team to a 17-2 victory over visiting Rensselaer on Saturday afternoon. Armiger had a career-best six goals and two assists as the Herons won their 13th consecutive home opener, and improved to 22-3 in home debuts since 1976.
William Smith (4-0) led 3-0 just two minutes, 41 seconds, into the game, and took a 5-1 advantage on Armiger's fourth goal of the first half at the 19:50 mark. Senior goalies Leslie Khachadourian (Guilderland/Albany, N.Y.) and Christine Giordano (Clarkstown/New City, N.Y.) combined to shut out the Red Hawks in the second half as the Herons netted 10 goals. Khachadourian had five saves, and needs just two more to move past Kelly Grazier (406) into fifth place on William Smith's career list. She recently became the sixth Heron netminder to record 400 career saves.
Senior Danae Nason-Junco (BB&N/Boston, Mass.) tied a career-high with five points on two goals and a career-high matching three assists to help William Smith improve to 24-1 in its last 25 regular season games. First-year Megan Shea (Mountain Lakes/Mountain Lakes, N.J.) delivered three goals and four assists, sophomore Gwen Parker (Woodstock/Brownsville, Vt.) provided three goals, and first-year Jackie Toner (Geneva/Geneva, N.Y.) added two goals.
