Herons defeat Bombers, remain undefeated

GENEVA, N.Y. -- Senior Danae Nason-Junco (BB&N/Boston, Mass.) finished with a career-high six points and first-year Megan Shea (Mountain Lakes/Mountain Lakes, N.J.) netted a career-best five goals to lead the fourth-ranked William Smith College lacrosse team to a 15-9 victory over visiting Ithaca College on Wednesday afternoon. Senior Rebecca Armiger (Centennial/Baltimore, Md.) tallied one goal and handed out a career-high matching four assists for the Herons (7-0), who captured win No. 27 in their last 28 regular season games. The Bombers (5-5) suffered their 19th consecutive loss to William Smith.

The Herons led 5-3 at halftime, and scored the initial four goals of the second stanza to take a 9-3 advantage with just over 22 minutes remaining. Ithaca senior Kim Harrison (East Meadow, N.Y.) fired home two goals in a span of 25 seconds to bring her team within four at the 20:55 mark, but the Herons scored six of the game's final 10 goals.

Nason-Junco deposited two goals and distributed a career-high four assists to lead William Smith. Sophomore Gwen Parker (Woodstock/Brownsville, Vt.) delivered three goals and one assist, while first-year Amanda Wynn (Loomis Chaffee/Aspen, Colo.) and junior Maura Reilly (Miss Porter's School/Newington, Conn.) added two goals apiece. Junior Meghan Genovese (Geneva/Geneva, N.Y.) had one assist, and ECAC Division III Goaltender of the Week Leslie Khachadourian (Guilderland/Albany, N.Y.) made four saves. A senior, Khachadourian (430 career saves) needs just seven stops to move past No. 3 Courtney Hutchinson (436) on William Smith's career list.

For Ithaca, Harrison totaled four goals and one assist, and junior Tara Lahm (Nanuet, N.Y.) provided one goal and two assists. Junior netminder Brooke Andrews (Groton, Mass.) stopped 15 Heron shots on goal.

William Smith, who outshot the Bombers 45-18, returns to action on Sun., April 16, when it travels to Gettysburg College at 1 p.m.
