GENEVA, N.Y.– The eighth ranked William Smith College field hockey team won its fifth straight game, defeating SUNY-Brockport 5-1. Four Herons did all the damage as William Smith outshot the Eagles 38-2.
Junior forward Jackie Hall (Berkshire School/Newport, R.I.) gave the Herons a 1-0 lead at 22:59 of the first half. Just five minutes later Nicky Livingston (Whitney Point/Whitney Point, N.Y.) doubled the lead, scoring the eventual game-winner.
Senior forward Lauren von Bereghy (University Lake School) made it 3-0, ripping a shot past Brockport goalie Brittany Phillips, four minutes into the second half. After Brockport had cut the lead to 3-1 Hall struck again, driving in a rebound at 24:01. With just over eight minutes to go, Livingston tallied her second of the game, closing the scoring at 5-1.
Hall was the top scorer with two goals and two assists, Livingston had two goals and an assist, von Bereghy had a goal and an assist, and sophomore forward Sheila McKevitt (Clinton/Clinton, N.Y.) finished with two assists. William Smith visits Vassar next on Sept. 22, at 4 p.m.
