Golden Flyers edge Statesmen

GENEVA, N.Y.– Nazareth College took advantage of a second half corner kick to defeat Hobart College 1-0. The Statesmen fall to 3-6-0, while the Golden Flyers stay undefeated at 5-0-0.

Hobart outplayed Nazareth for most of the first half, out shooting the Golden Flyers 11-6. Neither team was able to take advantage of their few scoring chances. In the second half Nazareth picked up their play, putting more pressure on Hobart's defense. The pressure resulted in eight second half corner kicks for the Golden Flyers. In the 79th minute, Kevin Thornton headed teammate Zack Brook's corner kick past sophomore goalie Cory Rosier (Liverpool/Liverpool, N.Y.), giving Nazareth the 1-0 lead. Hobart responded with several scoring chances in the closing minutes, but couldn't get the equalizer.
