GENEVA, N.Y.–The William Smith College field hockey extended its winning streak to eight games this afternoon with a 7-0 victory over visiting Rochester. The Herons' attack was led by junior Jackie Hall (Berkshire School/Newport, R.I.), who tied a William Smith single game record with four goals.
Hall scored with 4:36 remaining in the opening frame, and tacked on an insurance goal 1:33 into the second. The contest remained a low scoring affair until the 20:58 mark, then the flood gates opened. Over the next 7 minutes and 18 seconds, the Herons (8-1, 3-0 in UCAA) scored five goals: two by Hall, two by sophomore Sheila McKevitt (Clinton/Clinton, N.Y.), and one by senior Lauren vonBereghy (University Lake School/Hartland, Wis.).
Junior Marjie MacVean (Johnstown/Johnstown, N.Y.) made one save to earn the shutout, while junior Amy Shutt (Eisenhower/Lawton, Okla.) and first-year Pam Sheffield (Longmeadow/Longmeadow, Mass.) combined to make 23 stops for Rochester (1-8, 0-3).
William Smith, ranked sixth in the nation by the STX/NFHCA Coaches Poll, returns to action on Sat., Sept. 30, when they travel to Gettysburg to take on the Bullets.
