Perrigo leads Herons past Red Hawks

GENEVA, N.Y.-The William Smith College soccer team ran past visiting Rensselaer, 2-0, this afternoon on the strength of sophomore Kristin Perrigo's (Liverpool/ Liverpool, N.Y.) one-goal, one-assist performance. The Herons improve to 5-4-0 on the season, 2-1-0 in the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association.

William Smith produced all the offense it would need in the ninth minute, when Perrigo crossed the ball into the box to sophomore Alyson Stachura (Pittsford Sutherland/Pittsford, N.Y.), who blasted home a shot from just outside the six. In the 64th minute, Perrigo headed home a perfect cross from senior Janet Howson (Morris Catholic/Madison, N.J.) to close out the scoring.

Junior Leah Cornwell (Wheatland-Chili/Caledonia, N.Y.) helped the Herons to their fourth shutout of the season, recording three saves, while sophomore Andrea Hamill (Mahopac/Mahopac, N.Y.) made four stops for Rensselaer (5-2-0, 1-2-0).

The Herons return to action on Sat., Sept. 30, at 2 p.m., when they host Vassar College.
