GENEVA, N.Y. -- The William Smith College soccer team completed the UCAA weekend sweep, defeat Vassar College 4-2. The Herons out shot the Brewers 27-4, as they won their second in a row.
Vassar drew first blood in the 12th minute when Elizabeth Keehner beat junior goalie Leah Cornwell (Wheatland-Chili/Caledonia, N.Y.). Sophomore forward Kristin Perrigo (Liverpool/Liverpool, N.Y.) evened the game in the 28th minute, splitting the defense and driving the ball into the top left corner. First-year midfielder Stephanie Leveille (Ossining/Ossining, N.Y.) put the Herons up in the 44th minute, giving William Smith a 2-1 halftime lead.
In the second half, Vassar took advantage of its only shot of the half, as Shannon Carroll's breakaway goal tied the game in the 55th minute. Sophomore midfielder Alyson Stachura (Pittsford Sutherland/Pittsford, N.Y.) put the Herons up for good 10 minutes later off a cross from senior forward Janet Howson (Morris Catholic/Madison, N.J.). Junior midfielder Elizabeth Dedrick (Horseheads/Erin, N.Y.) added an insurance goal in the 83rd minute, making it 4-2.
Leveille finished with a goal and two assists for the Herons (6-4-0, 3-1-0 UCAA)and Carroll had a goal and an assist for the Brewers (5-4-0, 1-3-0 UCAA). The Herons are back in action on Oct. 4, at 4 p.m., when they host the Nazareth Golden Flyers.
