Herons Crush Thoroughbreds

Box Score GENEVA, N.Y.-- The William Smith College basketball team overwhelmed Skidmore College 69-37, for their eighth win of the season. Sophomore Laura Hadwin (Vestal/Vestal, N.Y.) and junior Leah Cornwell (Wheatland-Chili/Caledonia, N.Y.) led the Herons again, combining for 31 of their team's 69 points.

William Smith used a 25-5 first half run, including a 13-0 stretch, to turn a one-point lead into a 19-point game. Hadwin scored 12 of her 16 points in the half and Cornwell had 10 of her 15 before the break to help the Herons to a 34-17 lead at the half. Skidmore got within 16 early in the second 20 minutes, but never got any closer as the Herons pulled away for the 32-point win.

First-years Heather Easter (North Carroll/Hampstead, Md.) and Kristen Wright (Dundee/Dundee, N.Y.) each scored nine points coming off the bench. William Smith's defense forced 26 Thoroughbred turnovers and held them to just 29 percent shooting in the game.

The Herons (8-4, 2-1) look for the weekend sweep when they host the Union College Dutchwomen tomorrow at 2 p.m.
