Herons complete weekend sweep

Box Score GENEVA, N.Y.-- The William Smith College basketball team knocked off Union College 63-50, to go 2-0 on the weekend. First-year Kristen Wright (Dundee/Dundee, N.Y.) was perfect from the floor, putting up a career-high 15 points to lead the Herons.

Trailing 13-12 early in the first half, the Herons responded with an 18-4 run to take control of the game. Union closed in as time expired in the first half, but headed to the locker room down 33-21. Wright scored 11 of her 15 in the first half.

In the second half, the Dutchwomen never got within 12 points and trailed by as many as 20. Junior Leah Cornwell (Wheatland-Chili/Caledonia, N.Y.) netted eight points in the second half to finish with 11 points. Senior Erin Case (Greene/Greene, N.Y.) also added seven of her 10 points in the second half as William Smith went on for the 13-point victory. The Herons shot 45 percent from the floor and forced 22 Union turnovers.

William Smith routed Skidmore in yesterday's UCAA action, 69-37. Sophomore Laura Hadwin (Vestal/Vestal, N.Y.) led all scores with 16 points. Cornwell had 15 points and 9 rebound, while first-years Wright and Heather Easter (North Carroll/Hampstead, Md.) each contributed nine points.

The Herons (9-4, 3-1) are back in action Jan. 23, when they host the Continentals of Hamilton College at 6 p.m.
