Herons win third straight

Box Score GENEVA, N.Y.-- The William Smith College basketball team improved to 10-4 overall and 4-1 in the UCAA with an impressive 73-52 victory over visiting Hamilton College. Junior Leah Cornwell (Wheatland-Chili/Caledonia, N.Y.) and senior Erin Case (Greene/Greene, N.Y.) helped the Herons to the win with strong performances.

The Herons steadily pulled away from the Continentals in the first half, taking a 32-17 lead into the locker room. Cornwell scored 10 of her 17 points in the first half, while sophomore Laura Hadwin (Vestal/Vestal, N.Y.) scored all eight of her points in the half.

In the second half, William Smith opened up leads of 25 and 24 points on the way to a 21-point victory. Case led the Herons with 10 of her 14 points and first-year Kristen Wright (Dundee/Dundee, N.Y.) had seven of her 11 points after the break.

William Smith finishes its homestand when it hosts Clarkson University on Jan. 26, at 6 p.m., and St. Lawrence University on Jan. 27, at 2 p.m.
