Box Score GENEVA, N.Y.--The William Smith College basketball team cruised to its fourth straight win with a decisive 83-50 victory over Clarkson University. Five of the Herons' first six field goals were three pointers as William Smith knocked the Golden Knights out early.
A three-pointer by senior forward Erin Case (Greene/Greene, N.Y.) just 39 seconds into the game erased a 2-0 Clarkson lead and the Herons never trailed again. William Smith hit four more threes, two from Case and two from senior guard Brianna Tindall (Pultney/Castleton, Vt.), to build a 17-6 lead with 13:46 remaining in the first half. The Golden Knights picked up their play but still trailed 38-25 at the half.
The Herons came out strong in the second half, extending their lead to 49-29, capped by a four-point play from junior center Leah Cornwell (Wheatland-Chili/Caldonia, N.Y.). Cornwell finished with a game-high 21 points and seven rebounds. Tindall connected for two more threes, finishing with 14 points, including 4-of-4 from behind the arc. First-year Kaleen Goodman (Corning West/Painted Post, N.Y.) bolstered the Herons offense with a career-high 10 points from the bench, all in the second half. Case finished with nine points as William Smith went on to an 83-50 victory.
The Herons shot 44 percent from the floor and forced 35 Clarkson turnovers. William Smith (11-4, 5-1) hosts defending UCAA Champion St. Lawrence University (15-1, 7-0) tomorrow at 2 p.m.
