Corbett's career-highs lead Hobart to victory

Box Score GENEVA, N.Y.–Joe Corbett (Haverford School/Philadelphia, Pa.) scored a career-high 29 points and grabbed a career-high 21 rebounds to lead the Hobart College Statesmen to their 10th win in the last 11 games, 88-72 over visiting Cazenovia College. The sophomore center was 13-of-19 from the floor and converted three of his six trips to the charity stripe.

The Statesmen (14-5) got off to a sluggish start and trailed 12-4 4:16 into the contest, but Hobart battled back to tie the game at 20. Corbett scored eight of Hobart's 16 points during the run. After trading baskets to 26-26, the Statesmen took the lead for good on a Corbett layup with 5:32 remaining in the opening half, a lead they never relinquished.

Hobart's lead was six after an Andre Brown (10 pts.) layup in the waning seconds, 40-34, but a three-quarters court heave by senior guard Kevin Leonardo (Coxsackie-Athens/Coxsackie, N.Y.) sent the Statesmen into the locker room with a nine-point advantage. Leonardo finished a single point shy of his first career double-double with nine points and 10 assists.

After the break, Cazenovia (9-10) scored the first basket, a jumper by Justin Stowers (16 pts.) to trim the lead to seven, but the Wildcats got no closer. The Statesmen expanded their lead to double digits early in the second half and never lead by less than 10 after junior guard Brian Schiele (St. Anthony's/Seaford, N.Y.) drained a three-pointer to give Hobart a 50-38 lead. Schiele finished with 19 points and seven assists.

Sophomore forward Davidek Herron (Schenectady/Schenectady, N.Y.) and junior guard Michael Gambino (Our Lady of Lourdes/Hyde Park, N.Y.) also reached double digits for the Statesmen with 13 and 10 points, respectively. Hobart, the top-ranked team in the East Region, returns to action on Fri., Feb. 9, at 8 p.m., when it hosts RPI in a UCAA match up.
