Box Score EASTON, Pa.–The fifteenth ranked Hobart College lacrosse team survived a first half scare from the Lafayette Leopards this afternoon to notch a 15-10 Patriot League victory. Sophomore attackman John Bogosian (Kent School/Massena, N.Y.) produced his second five-point performance of the season with two goals and three assists to pace the Statesmen.
Facing the Patriot League's preseason favorite, Lafayette (1-2, 0-1) rose to the occasion. In the first quarter, sophomore Brian Joy (West Genesee/Camillus, N.Y.) gave Hobart (2-0, 2-0) the early lead, but the Leopards responded with back-to-back goals to take its first lead of the game. The Statesmen pulled even on the first of three goals on the afternoon by senior midfielder Jason Ouellet (Avon Old Farms/Chesire, Conn.) two minutes before the opening frame.
The teams traded goals through the first nine minutes of the second quarter with Hobart holding a 5-4 advantage at the 6:13 mark. Lafayette responded with three unanswered goals in 57 seconds to build a 7-5 lead with 1:20 remaining in the opening half.
The Statesmen answered in kind. Ouellet made it a one goal game with 41 ticks left, and seven seconds later senior attackman Jamie Breslin (Mountain Lakes/Mountian Lakes, N.Y.) completed his natural hat trick, knotting the game heading into halftime.
Hobart broke the game open in the third quarter, recording goals by Bogosian, senior Eric Burns (West Genesee/Syracuse, N.Y.), and sophomore David Occhialini (Avon Old Farms/Chesire, Conn.) to build a 10-7 lead with 15 minutes remaining.
The Leopards scored the first goal of the final frame to close to within two, but back-to-back goals by junior Peter Cooke (Jamesville-DeWitt/Fayetteville, N.Y.) and Joy put the game out of reach.
Sophomore Mike Borsz (West Genesee/Camillus, N.Y.) finished with 15 saves for the Statesmen, including 11 in the first half.
Hobart returns to action at 1 p.m., on Sat., March 24, when they host another Patriot League opponent, Lehigh University at the new artificial turf stadium.
