Box Score WASHINGTON –The eighth-ranked Georgetown University lacrosse team used its powerful attack to knock out the 20th-ranked Hobart College Statesmen, 17-5.
Hobart got off to a strong start as senior midfielder Joe Leska (Vestal/Vestal, N.Y.) found senior midfielder Jason Ouellet (Avon Old Farms/Cheshire, Conn.) in front of the Hoya net just a minute and 46 seconds into the game. Ouellet ripped the ball past Georgetown goalie Scott Schroeder for a 1-0 Statesmen lead. Hobart held the lead for seven minutes before the Hoyas opened up a 3-1 advantage with three goals in two-minute span. With 2:03 remaining in the opening quarter, senior attackman Jamie Breslin (Mountain Lakes/Mountain Lakes, N.J.) made the most of a two-man advantage, beating Schroeder from a tough angle and closing the gap to 3-2.
Georgetown dominated the second quarter, outshooting Hobart 17-6, and shutting out the Statesmen 4-0 for a 7-2 halftime lead.
After a Hoya tally made it a six goal game just 34 seconds into the third quarter, Breslin struck again to cut the lead to 8-3 at the 12:46 mark. Georgetown got the next three goals before sophomore attackman John Bogosian (Kent School/Massena, N.Y.) finished a pass from Ouellet by with 1:47 to go in the quarter.
Bogosian opened up the fourth quarter scoring with his second goal on a pass from first-year attackman Geoff Zbikowski (C.W. Baker/Baldswinsville, NY) to make it an 11-5 game with 10:47 to go. The assist was Zbikowski's first collegiate point. The Hoyas responded with the final six goals of the game for the 17-5 victory.
Sophomore goalie Mike Borsz (West Genesee/Camillus, NY) made 14 saves in 54 minutes, while first-year Taylor Coe (Lake Forest/Lake Forest, Ill.) made one save in the final six minutes. Breslin and Bogosian led the Statesmen with two goals apiece, while Ouellet finished with a goal and an assist. Breslin's two goals move him into 17th place on the career goals scored list with 85, passing Mark Darcangelo '82 and Cabell Maddux '94. He needs two more goals to tie Jared Bebee '00 for 16th.
Hobart (4-3) heads to Ithaca on April 17, to take on the Big Red of Cornell University.
