Box Score SYRACUSE, N.Y.—The top-ranked Syracuse University lacrosse team made the Carrier Dome a very unfriendly place for Hobart College in the teams’ 88th meeting. The Orangemen exploded for 13 first half goals to sink the Statesmen, 19-4.
Hobart battled Syracuse evenly for the first 10 minutes of the contest, getting within 2-1 on a goal from junior attackman
John Bogosian (Kent School/Massena, N.Y.) at the 7:27 mark. The goal seemed to spark the Orange’s potent offense as Syracuse began a 14-0 run two minutes later. Sophomore attackman
Dan Cesere (Holderness School/Concord, N.H.) ended the Statesmen’s drought with 7:10 to go in the third quarter. First-year
Nate Hill (Hamburg/Hamburg, N.Y.) netted Hobart’s final two tallies at 14:47 and 11:03 of the final quarter, but Syracuse added three more for the 19-4 final.
Hill finished with two goals and an assist, while junior attacker Kris Shore (Liverpool/Liverpool, N.Y.) and sophomore defender Matt Kanellis (Cortland/Cortland, N.Y.) each recorded assists. In goal, junior Mike Borsz (West Genesee/Camillus, N.Y.) stopped 14 shots in the first three quarters and first-year Dan Valente (Mount Hebron/Ellicot City, Md.) made eight saves in the final 15 minutes. Syracuse’s goaltending duo of Jay Pfiefer and Nick Donatelli frustrated the Statesmen with a combined 19 saves.
Hobart (3-3, 2-1 PL) hosts 20th-ranked and defending Patriot League Champion Bucknell University (3-4, 2-0 PL) on March 30, at 1 p.m. Last season, the Bison defeated the Statesmen, 12-4, in Lewisburg, Pa.
