Box Score September 15, 2002GENEVA, N.Y.—Division II powerhouse Lock Haven University shutout William Smith College in field hockey this afternoon by a score of 3-0. The Eagles are ranked fourth in the D-II coaches poll, while the Herons are 16th in the Division III coaches poll.
Lock Haven (3-1) recorded all the offense it would need 14:29 into the contest when junior Jen DeNault (Hamburg/Hamburg, Pa.) tucked home a cross-goal pass from first-year Nikki Sweger (Central Dauphin East/Dauphin, Pa.).
Lock Haven continued to cling to a 1-0 lead as the second half began, but senior Erica Grap (Spencer-Van Etten/Van Etten, N.Y.) gave the Eagles some breathing room with a shot to the upper right corner of the cage less than three minutes into the final frame. Sophomore Kellie Kulina (Lower Dauphin/Hummelstown, Pa.) earned the assist. Grap netted her second tally just four minutes later on an unassisted breakaway to put the game out of reach.
William Smith (2-2) junior Jessica Kulesa (Garden City/Garden City, N.Y.) made five saves, while sophomore Melissa Stubblefield (Carmel/Carmel, N.Y.) recorded two stops for Lock Haven.
