Box Score GENEVA, N.Y.—The No. 8 Oneonta field hockey team upset top seeded William Smith this evening at McCooey Field, 1-0 in overtime in the ECAC Mid-Atlantic quarterfinal round. Senior midfielder Jenn Miller (North Warren/Chestertown, N.Y.) scored the game winner just 91 seconds into the extra session.
On a penalty corner with the overtime barely a minute old, Miller took a feed from junior midfielder Sarah Johnson (Oxford Academy/Oxford, N.Y.) and sent a slow roller over the goal line. The shot seemed to trickle through a crowd, but it had just enough on it to beat a racing Heron defender to the line.
After a rather flat first half, William Smith (14-6) dominated play in the second period, outshooting their guests, 13-2. The Herons had several good scoring chances, but the Red Dragons’ junior goalie Kelly Mohr (Danbury/Danbury, Conn.) was in the zone. Mohr turned back all 11 shots William Smith put on the cage, including eight in the second half.
Senior
Jessica Kulesa (Garden City/Garden City, N.Y.) made four saves for William Smith, all in the first half.
Oneonta improves to 15-7 and will face No. 4 Ursinus, a 5-2 winner over McDaniel today, at a site to be determined on Nov. 15.
