Box Score GENEVA, N.Y.—Sophomore Maggie Dolan (Towson/Towson, Md.) scored two goals and added an assist to lead the William Smith field hockey team to a convincing 5-0 win over Rensselaer in the UCAA Semifinals this afternoon on McCooey Field. Skidmore notched a goal in each half to upend St. Lawrence 2-1 in the second semifinal game. The 12th-ranked Herons and 10th-ranked Thoroughbreds will meet in the championship game tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m., on McCooey Field, with the winner receiving the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

WILLIAM SMITH 5, RENSSELAER 0

The Herons (14-4) wasted little time getting into the scoring column as first-year Sophie Dennis (Dana L. West/Port Byron, N.Y.) redirected a Lauren Fuller (Shaker/Loudonville, N.Y.) shot on a penalty corner in the seventh minute. Just 29 seconds later Dolan took a pass from Dennis on the right side and slipped it past Red Hawk goalie Amanda Lund (Valley Regional/Chester, Conn.) for the 2-0 lead. Dennis’s goal tied the William Smith record for goals by a first-year with 16, while her assist pushes her points total to 35 and just three shy of the rookie record for points set by 2003 Hall of Honor Inductee Melissa Crowley Price ’91.

William Smith repeated that performance 12 minutes later getting unassisted goals 19 seconds apart by Dolan and Lilly Gillett (Wheeler School/Seekonk, Mass.), respectively. The Herons took the 4-0 lead into the break and never looked back, getting a fifth and final goal from Gillett two minutes into the second session. The Herons outshot RPI by a count of 20-5 and held an 18-4 advantage on penalty corners.

Senior goalie Jessica Kulesa (Garden City/Patchogue, N.Y.) and sophomore Susan Jordan (Boothbay/Boothbay, Maine) combined for the win, making one stop, while Lund grabbed eight saves in 70 minutes of action.

SKIDMORE 2, ST. LAWRENCE 1

Looking for their second upset of a top-10 team in recent weeks, St. Lawrence (11-5) took a 1-0 lead when Nicola Reid (St. Andrews/Kingston, Jamaica) touched in a Jenny Heffler (Williamsville South/Williamsville, N.Y.) blast from the top of the arc in the sixth minute. Skidmore (15-3) answered 17 minutes later on an unassisted goal by Alison Enright (Hollis Brookline/Hollis, N.H.), sending the two teams into halftime knotted at one.

The Thoroughbreds came out of the break and dominated the opening 10 minutes, firing three shots and getting two penalty corners. Skidmore finally broke through the defense in the 49th minute, as Hallory Mogren (Profile/Sugar Hill, N.H.) recorded her first goal of the year to secure the 2-1 victory.

Goaltender Sarah Rohrs (Gloversville/Gloversville, N.Y.) was outstanding in goal for the RPI, making nine saves, while Jenna Spackman (Newton North/West Newton, Mass.) grabbed two stops.
