GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart College senior Davidek Herron (Schenectady/Schenectady, N.Y.) turned in a game-high 28 points and 17 rebounds this afternoon to lead the Statesmen to a 93-85 double overtime victory over visiting Skidmore College in Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association basketball action. The senior forward played all 50 minutes for Hobart, going 8-14 from the field and 12-15 from the charity stripe.

Down by as many as eight points in the first half, the Statesmen (8-11, 5-4 UCAA) went on a 23-8 run over the course of nine minutes to take a 33-26 lead with two minutes left in the opening session. The Thoroughbreds then hit three of their next four field goals, cutting Hobart’s lead to 36-35 at halftime.

Hobart would maintain a small lead throughout most of the second half but was unable to put Skidmore (11-8, 4-5 UCAA) away for good as the Thoroughbreds tied the game with 4:42 remaining. All even at 66, Skidmore scored six straight points in the next two minutes for a six point edge with 2:33 left to play. Herron stepped up in the next two minutes making all four of his free throws keying a 6-0 Statesmen run to force overtime.

In the first extra session the Statesmen took a 80-77 lead with 51 seconds left off a three pointer from first-year Colby Feane (Weedsport/Weedsport, N.Y.). Skidmore’s Dana Martin (Stowe, Stowe, Vt.) hit a trey 18 seconds later knotting the game at 80. Hobart got one last chance but could not convert on two layup attempts as the game headed to double overtime.

Hitting four of their first five field goal attempts in the second extra session, the Statesmen grabbed a five point advantage and never looked back to earn the 93-85 win over Skidmore.

Senior forward Joe Corbett (Haverford School/Philadelphia, Pa.) posted a double-double with 21 points and 13 boards, while Feane chipped in 20 points and grabbed four steals. Junior guard Brad Strait (Fort Plain/Fort Plain, N.Y.) rounded out Hobart’s double-figure scorers with 12 points.

Martin paced the Skidmore offense with 24 points, while sophomore J.P. Corry (Barrington/Barrington, R.I.) contributed 13 points on the afternoon.

The Statesmen are back in action on Feb. 11, when they host Hamilton College in Bristol Gym. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
