Box Score GENEVA, N.Y.—The 18th-ranked William Smith College field hockey team cruised to its second straight shutout in its annual Invitational, blanking 20th-ranked Susquehanna University, 3-0. In the day’s first game, St. Lawrence University posted a 5-1 win over Manhattanville College.

Fresh off a 5-0 rout of Manhattanville in the opening round of the William Smith Invitational, the Herons (3-2) faced a more challenging foe in the Crusaders (3-3).
Undaunted, William Smith went on the offensive from the opening whistle and completely dominated the opening half. The Herons outshot Susquehanna 13-0 in the first 35 minutes. Sophomore Maggie Dolan (Towson/Towson, Md.) opened the scoring in the 22nd minute off an assist from first-year Sophie Dennis (Dana L. West/Port Byron, N.Y.).
Less than four minutes later, first-year Brooke Atwood (Marathon/Marathon, N.Y.) stuffed home a rebound to double the William Smith lead. Eighty-five second after that, classmate Ashley Barker (Cape Elizabeth/Cape Elizabeth, Maine) registered her first collegiate goal–also off a rebound–to give the Herons a 3-0 advantage heading into the break.
While the Crusaders did manage a pair of shots on goal in the second half, senior goalie Jessica Kulesa (Garden City/Garden City, N.Y.) turned both into saves in her ledger. Sophomore Susan Jordan (Boothbay/Boothbay, Maine) played the final eight minutes to preserve the shutout.
First-year Shannon Baker (Dover/Dover, Pa.) made 10 saves for the Crusaders.
ST. LAWRENCE 5, MANHATTANVILLE 1
The Saints (3-2) rebounded from yesterday’s 2-1 loss to Susquehanna with an impressive 5-1 win over Manhattanville. First-year Ali Mattison (Tabor Academy/Osterville, Mass.) led the charge with a four-goal performance, her first four collegiate tallies.
St. Lawrence led the Valiants 2-0 at halftime thanks to goals by Mattison and sophomore Liz Allison (Johnsburg/North Creek, N.Y.).
Manhattanville halved its deficit in the 41st minute when sophomore Dione Jones (Nazareth/Wind Gap, Pa.) finished off a scramble in front with her first goal of the season. The threat lit a fire under Mattison, who scored the game’s next three goals in a span of little more than 11 minutes.
Junior Sarah Rohrs (Gloversville/Gloversville, N.Y.) earned the win in goal with three stops, while junior April Yeomans (Lindhurst/Lindhurst, N.Y.) made 14 saves for the Valiants.
