Box Score GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith College field hockey team rode an impressive five-goal second half surge to a come-from-behind victory over visiting St. Lawrence University this afternoon at McCooey Field. The 17th-ranked Herons improve to 5-1 overall, 1-0 in the Liberty League, while the Saints slip to 4-3, 0-1.

William Smith dominated play from the start, but struggled to solve St. Lawrence goalie Emilie Lannamann (Proctor Academy/Durham, N.H.). The first-year was unbeatable in the first half, turning away all 12 shots she faced. Lannamann finished with 20 saves.

While the Saints’ offensive opportunities were very limited, forward Tiffany Elsenbeck (Clinton/Clinton, N.Y.) made sure to take advantage. The junior scored on the only two shots the Saints took in the contest, both in the first half, giving the visitors a 2-0 lead at the break.

The Herons finally broke through in the 43rd minute when sophomore forward Sophie Dennis (Dana L. West/Port Byron, N.Y.) batted home her seventh goal of the season, assisted by junior midfielder Amy Kuzio (Clinton/Clinton, N.Y.).

William Smith equalized in the 58th minute when junior forward Maggie Dolan (Towson/Towson, Md.) batted home a rebound. Less than four minutes later, she notched the game-winner on a similar scramble in front of the cage.

Senior forward Lily Gillett (Wheeler School/Seekonk, Mass.) and Dennis added insurance goals in the 67th and 70th minutes, respectively.

The Herons outshot the Saints 36-2, while holding a 14-2 advantage on penalty corners.

William Smith is back in action at 2 p.m., Sept. 25, when Liberty League foe Hamilton visits McCooey Field.
