GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart senior
Peter Piné (Princeton/Princeton, N.J.) tied the Statesmen career record for singles wins, but Hamilton College escaped Bristol Field House with a 4-3 Liberty League tennis win. Hobart slips to 7-9, while the Continentals improve to 6-6.
Piné captured a 6-3, 6-3 first singles win over first-year Dan Gordon (Sarnia Northern/Sarnia, Ontario) to raise his career singles record to 75-23. Hobart Hall of Famer Adam Schapiro ’96 established the benchmark with a four-year record of 75-4.
The Statesmen also won in straight sets at second and third singles thanks to sophomore
Matt Silver (Weston/Weston, Conn.) and first-year
Charlie Davis (Manlius-Pebble Hill School/Cazenovia, N.Y.), respectively.
Hamilton won two of three doubles matches to secure that point and won in straight sets at fourth and fifth singles to set the stage for a dramatic finish.
Hobart first-year
Nick Raho (Wheeler School/Providence, R.I.) got off to a good start, winning the first set 7-5. Hamilton first-year Reid Snyder (Cooperstown/Cooperstown, N.Y.) with a 6-3 win in the second set. Reid continued to roll in the decisive third set, jumping out to a 5-1 lead. Raho battled back to tie the set 5-5, but Reid prevailed 7-5 to secure the Continental triumph.
The Statesmen are back in action at 4 p.m. on April 19, when they host RIT.
