GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart tennis team defeated visiting St. John Fisher College 5-2 this afternoon at the HWS Tennis Center. Senior Peter Piné (Princeton/Princeton, N.J.) led the Statesmen with a straight sets victory at first singles, moving within a single win of the Hobart career record.

Ranked 17th in the Northeast Region, Piné dispatched first-year Aaron Haak (Palmyra-Macedon/Macedon, N.Y.) 6-1, 6-2 to improve his career singles record to 74-21, one win shy of the benchmark established by Hobart Hall of Famer Adam Schapiro ’96. A 2001 Hall of Fame inductee, Schapiro compiled a 75-4 career singles mark.

Hobart also picked up singles victories from first-year Charlie Davis (Manlius-Pebble Hill School/Cazenovia, N.Y.), junior Matt Jacobus (S. Burlington/S. Burlington, Vt.), senior Derrick Moore (Whitesboro/Deerfield, N.Y.), and first-year Nick Raho (Wheeler School/Providence, R.I.) in the No. 3 through No. 6 spots.

Piné will have his first chance to tie the record when the Statesmen travel to Ithaca College on April 7, for a 4 p.m. match.
