Box Score ELMIRA, N.Y.—Hobart junior forward Jonathan Swift (Andover, Mass.) scored a team-high two goals, but it wasn’t enough to stop No. 2 St. Norbert College. The Green Knights edged the Statesmen 5-4 in overtime of the NCAA Division III Men’s Hockey semifinals this afternoon at First Arena.
Hobart ends the season with a 20-8-0 record, five more wins than any previous Statesmen squad. Hobart’s nine seniors will graduate as the most successful class in terms of wins and winning percentage in the program’s 28 varsity seasons. The Class of 2006 led the Statesmen to a 63-32-11 (.646) record, including two trips to the NCAA Tournament and the 2004 ECAC West Championship.

Between the pipes, Hobart first-year Keith Longo (Hopedale, Mass.) recorded a season-high 38 saves, including nine in overtime. He raised the Hobart single season record for save percentage to .928 and lowered the season goals against average mark to 2.18.
In a fast-paced opening period, both teams combined for 27 shots. St. Norbert opened the scoring at the 8:51 mark, when junior forward Kurtis Peterson pounced on a rebound.
Hobart (20-8-0) displayed its resiliency by netting three unanswered goals in a span of just 2:35. Swift sparked the Statesmen’s run at the 16:02 mark, when he chipped sophomore forward Shawn Houde’s (Manchester, N.H.) rebound into the top of the net.
Sixty-one seconds later, junior forward Mike McCarthy (Medfield, Mass.) ripped a shot from the top of the right blue line into the top left corner of the cage to give Hobart its first lead of the contest.
Less than two minutes after that, senior defenseman Will Bodine (North Massapequa, N.Y.) blasted a slap shot from just inside the blue line to give the Statesmen a 3-1 lead heading into the first intermission. Senior forward Will Brame (West Hartford, Conn.) earned an assist on Bodine’s fourth goal of the season.
The Green Knights controlled the second stanza, outshooting Hobart 13-4. St. Norbert’s efforts were rewarded as first-year forward Ryan Peterson and senior forward Connor Hughes found the back of the net, evening the contest at 3-3 heading into the third period.
Just 2:59 into the third period, the Green Knights regained the lead as Jeff Hazelwood recorded a power-play goal.
The Statesmen tied the game for the third time at the 7:18 mark, when Swift cashed in on a feed from junior forward Connor Bradley (West Hartford, Conn.) to force overtime.
Sophomore goaltender Kyle Jones made 23 stops for the Green Knights.
