Box Score GENEVA, N.Y.—The 11th-ranked William Smith field hockey team won its sixth consecutive game with an impressive 6-0 shutout of Liberty League rival St. Lawrence University on McCooey Field. Seniors Sophie Dennis (Dana L. West/Port Byron, N.Y.) and Liz Saucier (Old Town/Old Town, Maine) led the way with four points apiece.

Dennis scored the 72nd and 73rd goals of her career, while Saucier contributed a goal and two assists. Senior Ashley Barker (Cape Elizabeth/Cape Elizabeth, Maine) and first-year Kaitlyn Hamilton (Harpursville/Harpursville, N.Y.) added a goal and an assist each.

A very lopsided contest, the Herons held a 30-4 advantage in shots and a 10-6 advantage in penalty corners.

Dennis recorded back-to-back scores to start the contest, with Saucier earning an assist on both to give William Smith a 2-0 lead just over 12 minutes into the match. Barker and Saucier also chimed in with first half goals to send the Herons (6-1, 2-0 Liberty) into halftime with a comfortable 4-0 lead.

After the break, Hamilton and sophomore Kelsey Landahl (Pioneer/Delevan, N.Y.) found the back of the cage to complete the blowout. Landahl’s goal in the 60th minute was the first of her collegiate career.

In goal, sophomore Katie DeKraker (Staples/Westport, Conn.) made three saves to record her first collegiate shutout. At the other end of the field, junior Lindsey Taylor (Rutland/Rutland, Vt.) made 17 stops for St. Lawrence (4-4, 1-1).

During its current win streak, William Smith’s offense is averaging 5.17 goals per game, while the Heron defense is allowing just 0.67 goals per game, outscoring the opposition 31-4.

William Smith will play the sixth game of an eight-game homestand on Sept. 27, when the University of Rochester visits McCooey Field. The Herons and Yellowjackets will square off at 7 p.m.
