Ithaca sneaks past Hobart, 1-0

Box Score ITHACA, N.Y.—Sixteenth-ranked Hobart College fell to Ithaca College today 1-0 in non-conference soccer action. The Statesmen drop to 8-2-2 on the season, while the Bombers improve to 7-4-1 overall.

In a hard-fought, back-and-forth match, the lone score of the day did not come until the 86th minute. Ithaca’s John Tarson booted a corner kick to Kurt Odenbach for a shot that rebounded off the Hobart defense. Bomber Jason Kaufman was there to clean up the rebound for the game-winning goal.

Few shots were taken in the game. The Statesmen out shot their hosts 9-5, while both teams registered just two shots on goal. Ithaca held a slight 6-5 advantage in corner kicks.

Junior goalkeeper Phil DaCosta (Manchester Memorial/Manchester, N.H.) picked up one save in goal for Hobart, while counterpart Andy Wilhlem recorded two.

The Statesmen will be in action again on Oct. 20 when they travel to Clarkson for a Liberty League contest at 3 p.m.
