Box Score GENEVA, N.Y.—The fifth-ranked William Smith College soccer team improved its record to 13-0-1 overall and 5-0-1 in Liberty League play this afternoon, as it defeated Clarkson University 3-1 on Cozzens Field. The Golden Knights dropped to 3-8-2 overall and 0-5-1 in league action.
After a scoreless first half, the Herons put their first point on the board in the 54th minute. Sophomore midfielder
Jillian Harris (Olentangy/Lewis Center, Ohio) netted her first career goal, heading in a crossed ball from senior forward
Laura Burnett-Kurie (Oyster River/Durham, N.H.). With the assist, Burnett-Kurie is now tied for fifth on the all-time scoring list with 99 career points.

Rayza Santiago (Webster Schroeder/Webster, N.Y.) passed the ball to classmate
Julia Bernay (Newport Harbor/Newport Beach, Calif.) on the baseline to the right of the goal. Bernay’s attempt to cross the ball curved into the goal to give the hosts a 2-0 lead. Bernay’s score was the eventual game-winner.
A few minutes later, first-year forward Brelynn Nasypany (Herkimer/Herkimer, N.Y.) scored her 10th goal of the season to put the Herons up 3-0. Nasypany beat a defender and Clarkson goalkeeper Meagan Emlaw (Norwood-Norfolk/Norfolk, N.Y.) for the unassisted tally.
The Golden Knights tried to mount a comeback, as senior Alicia Chace (Cortland/Cortland, N.Y.) scored on a cross from classmate Caite Reed (Tully/Lafayette, N.Y.) in the 73rd minute, but would get no closer.
William Smith out shot its visitor 24-7, and took six corner kicks to the Golden Knight’s two.
First-year Heron goalkeeper Alexandra Chase (Bosque School/Albuquerque, N.M.) recorded the win with one save, while first-year
Alice Binns (Beaver Country Day/Boston, Mass.) picked up a save, and sophomore
Libby Greene (Northview/Grand Rapids, Mich.) also saw time in net. Emlaw (Norwood-Norfolk/Norfolk, N.Y.) finished with eight saves for Clarkson.
William Smith will be in action again tomorrow, Oct. 21, when it hosts Liberty League rival St. Lawrence at 1 p.m.
