Hobart ties #21 St. Lawrence

Box Score CANTON, N.Y.—The Hobart College soccer team tied No. 21 St. Lawrence 0-0 in double-overtime this afternoon. The Statesmen now hold a 9-2-3 overall record and a 3-1-3 mark in Liberty League action, while the Saints are 8-2-4 overall and 4-1-2 in the conference.

Hobart had an early chance to score, when a shot rebounded to junior Philipp Schoeniger (Erlangen/Erlangen, Germany) for an open net opportunity in the sixth minute. However, Saints midfielder Ian Fairlie stepped into the net and blocked Schoeniger’s shot to maintain the scoreless game.

St. Lawrence out shot Hobart 20-16, and held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Junior Statesmen goalkeeper Pete Van Dellon (Webster Thomas/Webster, N.Y.) picked up seven saves, while counterpart Emilio Coletta collected nine for St. Lawrence.

The Saints secured the regular season Liberty League title with the tie, and will host Hobart, Hamilton, and Union for the league tournament Nov. 2-3.

The Statesmen will host Nazareth for a non-league game on Oct. 24 at 4:30 p.m. Hobart will wrap up its regular season schedule on Oct. 27, when it hosts Fredonia at 1 p.m.
