GENEVA, N.Y.—Sophomore
Sarah Palmer (Friends School/Baltimore, Md.) scored a pair of goals to lead the 12th-ranked William Smith College field hockey team to a 5-1 non-conference victory over Nazareth College under the lights of McCooey Field. The Herons improve to 13-3 with the win, while the Golden Flyers slip to 11-5.

Brittney Paye (Clinton/Clinton, N.Y.) drove home a penalty corner off assists from juniors
Kelsey Landahl (Pioneer/Delevan, N.Y.) and
Charlotte Styer (Governor Mifflin/Mohnton, Pa.).
The Herons doubled their lead in the 26th minute when sophomore
Kaitlyn Hamilton (Harpursville/Harpursville, N.Y.) finished a feed from junior
Jamie Tucciarone (Clinton/Clinton, N.Y.). The goal was Hamilton’s Liberty League leading 14th.
William Smith led 2-0 at halftime with a 7-2 advantage on shots and a 5-2 edge on penalty corners. The Herons outshot the Flyers 20-7 for the game and had a 10-4 advantage on corners.
After the break, Palmer went to work. In the 44th minute, she batted home a rebound for just her second goal of the year. Less than three minutes later, she poked home a pass from Tucciarone to give the Herons a 4-0 lead.
Sophomore
Janelle Walkley (Tioga/Tioga Center, N.Y.) registered the final William Smith goal on a penalty stroke in the 52nd minute. She is now three for three on penalty strokes this season.
Nazareth avoided the shutout when sophomore Kelly Flanagan (Fairport/Fairport, N.Y.) redirected a long cross from senior Kelly Miranda (Ossining/Ossining, N.Y.) with just 66 seconds left in the match.

Katie DeKraker (Staples/Westport, Conn.) made one save in 65 minutes of work, while first-year
Chelsea Snyder (Cortland/Cortland, N.Y.) stopped two of the three shots she faced in relief. Flyers’ first-year Kelsey Evans (Penfield/Penfield, N.Y.) recorded 12 saves on the night.
William Smith will wrap up its regular season slate on Oct. 27, when the Herons travel to 10th-ranked Messiah. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
