Box Score GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College soccer team edged non-conference rival Nazareth 1-0 this afternoon on Cozzens field. The Statesmen improve to 10-2-3 overall, while the Golden Flyers drop to 7-7-2 on the season. The match marked the ninth time in the last 11 meetings between the two teams that the game has been decided by one goal or less.

After a scoreless first half that saw Hobart out shoot its visitor 9-2, the Statesmen finally connected in the 52nd minute for what would be the only tally of the game. On one of Hobart’s 13 corner kicks, sophomore Grant Morrison (Gleniffer/Paisley, Scotland) found senior Tyler Webster (Acton-Boxboro/Acton, Mass.) for the score. The goal marked Webster’s team-leading seventh of the season.

Nazareth turned up the pressure late in the game, with five of its seven second-half shots coming in the last 15 minutes. Overall, the Statesmen out shot the Golden Flyers 19-9, and held a 13-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Junior Statesmen goalkeeper Phil DaCosta (Manchester Memorial/Manchester, N.H.) collected all five of his saves in the second half, en route to his first shutout of the season. Sophomore Trey Barresi (Lansing/Lansing, N.Y.) picked up four saves in goal for Nazareth.

Hobart will close out its regular season schedule this Saturday, Oct. 27, when it hosts Fredonia for a non-league match at 1 p.m.
