Herons pick up 10th win of the season

Box Score POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.—The sixth-ranked William Smith College soccer team extended its unbeaten streak today, posting a 1-0 win over Vassar College. The Herons improve to 10-0-1 overall and 4-0-1 in Liberty League play, while the Brewers drop to 6-4-1 and 1-2-1 in the conference.

Sophomore midfielder Megan Stevens (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) netted the only goal of the day, off an assist from first-year forward Brelynn Nasypany (Herkimer/Herkimer, N.Y.). The score came late in the game, in the 79th minute, as Nasypany sent a through ball past the Vassar defense. Stevens won the race to the ball, drawing Brewer keeper Anne Hutchinson (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Prepatory) out of the goal. Stevens then poked the ball past Hutchinson for the game-winner.

The Herons and Brewers each took 18 shots, and both teams had four corner kick opportunities.

William Smith first-year goalkeeper Alice Binns (Beaver Country Day/Boston, Mass.) collected 10 saves in her third shutout of the season, while Hutchinson also finished with 10 stops for Vassar.

The Herons will travel to Nazareth on Oct. 9 for a non-league match at 4 p.m.
