Box Score GENEVA, N.Y.—For the second time in as many days, the seventh-ranked William Smith College field hockey team won a Liberty League match in overtime. Today senior
Brittney Paye (Clinton/Clinton, N.Y.) was the hero, scoring an unassisted goal in the 73rd minute, to lift the Herons over No. 15 Skidmore College 1-0.
Paye intercepted a Skidmore pass near the top of the Thoroughbreds’ circle, ran 5 yards closer to the cage and ripped a shot that deflected off a Skidmore player’s stick and in to end the defensive slugfest.
In regulation, Thoroughbred first-year goalie Liz Catinella (Lincoln-Sudbury/Sudbury, Mass.) stood on her head, stopping all 11 shots that she faced. At the other end of the field, junior
Katie DeKraker (Staples/Westport, Conn.) recorded five saves and her fourth shutout of the season. She also got a little help from her friends.
Junior
Leila Higgins (Groton School/Peapack, N.J.) registered a pair of defensive saves on back-to-back penalty corners in the first half, then, 10 minutes later, classmate
Charlotte Styer (Governor Mifflin/Mohnton, Pa.) made a diving defensive save to preserve the shutout.
