Heron squash opens with win over Colgate, 9-0

GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith College squash team opened the 2007-08 season with a 9-0 win over Colgate today in the Smith Squash Center. The Herons now hold a 1-0 record.

Leading the way for William Smith were senior Lucy Ross (Springside School/Philadelphia, Pa.), junior Lori Stump (Shady Side Academy/Pittsburgh, Pa.), and senior Maddie Brooks (Westminster School/New Canaan, Conn.) in matches No. 1-3, respectively.

Ross defeated Paige Bayless 3-1, while Stump downed Jenny Dorland 3-0, and Brooks defeated Nicole La Hausse 3-0.

Sophomore Katie Mullen (Convent of the Sacred Heart/Rye, N.Y.), senior Emily Gailun (Westminster School/Longmeadow, Mass.), sophomore Emily Hazenberg (Pomfret School/New York, N.Y.), sophomore Sarah Hallberg (Tabor Academy/Fairmont, W.Va.), sophomore Anne Fallon (Moses Brown School/Providence, R.I.), and junior Megan Peterson (Kent School/Stamford, Conn.) were all victorious in their matches. Each defeated their opponent by a score of 3-0.

The Herons will be in action again Dec. 1-2, when they compete in the Wesleyan Tournament.
