Box Score ROCHESTER, N.Y.--Hobart College lost to the University of Rochester, 2-0, in the second round of the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Tournament tonight at Fauver Stadium. The Statesmen end the season with a 12-4-3 record.
Fifth-ranked Rochester (15-2-2) scored a goal in each half to bring an end to Hobart's second consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament. Sean Hantes headed home the match's first goal in the 39th minute.
The Yellowjackets doubled their lead early in the second half, when Patrick Ripp laced a cross from the right wing through the box that Scott Cady headed in.
As the second half wore on the Yellowjackets faced increasing offensive pressure from the Statesmen. Hobart got six corner kicks all in the second half and a couple of quality scoring chances in the waning minutes, but goalie Michael Peacock was up to the task, recording four of his six saves in the second half.
For the Statesmen, goalie Pete Van Dellon was credited with one save.
Hobart reached double digit wins for the second consecutive season and the fourth time in the past six seasons. The Statesmen were ranked as high as fifth in the nation and were 22nd in the final coaches poll.
