Box Score OSWEGO, N.Y.—The ninth-ranked Hobart College hockey team defeated the defending national champion and 10th-ranked Oswego, 5-2, tonight at the Campus Center Arena. The Statesmen improve their undefeated record to 7-0-0 overall, while the Lakers drop to 4-3-1.

Junior goaltender Keith Longo (Hopedale, Mass.) had another outstanding performance in net with 41 saves. He stopped all 12 shots he faced in the first period.

Senior Brian Cibelli (Liverpool, N.Y.) led the offense with a goal and an assist, while classmate Shawn Houde (Manchester, N.H.) was responsible for the game-winner.

The Statesmen got on the board early, just 56 seconds into the first period. Junior Bryant Harris (Plainfield, N.H.) tallied his first goal of the year, assisted by sophomore Blake Bonham (Toronto, Ontario) and Cibelli. Cibelli tallied himself on a power play at 14:41, from sophomore Jordan Zitoun (Irving, Texas) and Bonahm. Hobart took the 2-0 lead into the first break.

Houde netted the eventual game-winner, unassisted, just 28 seconds into the second stanza.

The Lakers scored their first goal of the contest in the second, thanks to junior Peter Magagna (Brampton, Ontario). He was assisted by classmates Ryan Ellis (Georgetown, Ontario) and Rich Zalewski (New Hartford, N.Y.).

Just under three minutes into the third period, first-years Patrick Moriarty (Lloyd Harbor, N.Y.) and Matthew Wallace (Skaneateles, N.Y.) teamed up for Hobart’s fourth goal of the day.

Oswego first-year Josh Chamberlain (Bellville, Ontario) lit the lamp again at 11:49 in the third, cutting the visitor’s lead to 4-2, but the Lakers would come no closer.

Junior Kirk Golden (Vail, Colo.) finished things off for the Statesmen in the final minute. His shot tipped in off of Lakers goalie Ryan Scott (Williamsville, N.Y.), for the final 5-2 score.

Scott finished with 24 saves for Oswego.

The Statesmen will travel to Brockport tomorrow, Nov. 18, for another non-league contest at 3 p.m.
