Box Score ROCHESTER, N.Y.--The Hobart College soccer team earned its first NCAA Tournament victory by a 3-0 count over Fredonia State tonight at Fauver Stadium. The Statesmen will face the University of Rochester in the second round on Sat., Nov. 10, at 6 p.m.

Hobart (12-3-3) opened the scoring in the 12th minute. Dan Riso sent a cross from the right wing that was played into the Blue Devils' goal by a back-tracking defender.

In the 27th minute, Tyler Webster doubled the lead with a perfectly struck ball from 35 yards out. Goalie Scott Bergen (3 saves) got his hands on the offering, but it was struck with such pace that it continued to the back of the net. The tally was his team-leading ninth of the season.

Hobart led 2-0 at halftime after outshooting Fredonia 5-2.

After the break, the Blue Devils (12-7-2) were able to mount some offensive pressure of their own, but they failed to solve goalie Pete Van Dellon. The junior from nearby Webster finished the night with four saves for his fifth shutout of the season.

With just 26 seconds remaining, Riso cast out the Devils with the final tally of the night, running free on a breakaway and beating Bergen to his left. The goal was his sixth of the season.

Hobart's first tournament win came in its third trip to the NCAA postseason. The Statesmen's two previous first round matches in 1992 and 2006 both ended in ties and were settled by penalty kicks.

Hobart is the last team to defeat Rochester, 1-0, back on Sept. 15 in Geneva. Since then, the Yellowjackets are 11-0-1 (14-2-2 overall).
