Box Score GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith College basketball team improved its record to 3-0 with a 75-55 non-conference win over Keuka College this afternoon. Senior forward Stephanie Czajkowski (Bishop Ludden/Syracuse, N.Y.) led a balanced scoring effort with 11 points and nine rebounds for the Herons.

William Smith played stifling defense, limiting the Storm to just 29.8 percent shooting, including just 19.4 percent in the first half. The Herons also forced Keuka into 23 turnovers that William Smith turned into 27 points.

Senior guard Marisa Vespa (Immaculate Heart/Watertown, N.Y.) made a strong bid for a triple double, finishing with 11 assists, nine points, and eight steals. Junior guard Latasha Coney (Lyons/Lyons, N.Y.) added 10 points and five boards, while graduate student guard Paula Foote (Sidney/Sidney, N.Y.), sophomore forward Robyn Capoto (Liverpool/Liverpool, N.Y.), and first-year Ashlinn Barber (Spencer-Van Etten/Spencer, N.Y.) each added nine points.

Sophomore guard Melissa Thurston (Batavia/Batavia, N.Y.) paced Keuka (1-2) with a game-high 13 points, while senior forward Abby Brewer (South Seneca/Ovid, N.Y.) had a game-high 10 boards.

With the game tied 4-4, Czajkowski started a 9-0 Heron run with a traditional three-point play. Midway through the opening half, Keuka got it back to a five point game on a pair of free throws by Brewer, but William Smith answered with a 12-0 run to seize control. The Herons took a 36-22 lead into halftime.

The Storm scored the first five points of the second half to trim its deficit to nine, 36-27, but Foote hit the first of her three second half triples to put William Smith’s lead back in double digits for the remainder of the contest. The Herons led by as many as 24 before settling into the 20-point win.

Since the start of the 1991-92 season, Keuka has made the trip to Geneva 10 times, and each time left town without a win.

William Smith is back in action on Tues., Dec. 4, when the Herons host Rochester. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
