MIDDLETOWN, Conn.—The William Smith College squash team split two matches today on Day 1 of the Wesleyan Round Robin. The Herons lost to Bates 9-0 this morning, before bouncing back to defeat Connecticut College 6-3. William Smith now holds a 4-2 record on the season.
The Herons swept spots four through nine in the victory over the Colonials. Senior Emily Gailun (Westminster School/Longmeadow, Mass.) won at No.4, while sophomore
Katie Mullen (Convent of the Sacred Heart/Rye, N.Y.) took the fifth match, and sophomore
Emily Hazenberg (Pomfret School/New York, N.Y.) won the sixth. Wrapping things up for the Herons was sophomore
Sarah Hallberg (Tabor Academy/Fairmont, W.Va.) in the seventh slot, junior
Megan Peterson (Kent School/Stamford, Conn.) at No. 8, and first-year
Sarah Cummings (Miss Porter’s School/West Hartford, Conn.) at No. 9. All six winners for William Smith posted scores of 3-0.
The Herons will be in action again tomorrow, Dec. 2, at Wesleyan. They will face George Washington at 8:30 a.m., before meeting Wellesley at 11:30 a.m.
