Box Score STATE COLLEGE, Pa.—Penn State kept the Hobart lacrosse team off the scoreboard over the final 29 minutes of the contest as the Nittany Lions posted a 12-7 ECAC win in Holuba Hall.
Chris David scored twice for Hobart, while Jamie Kirk added a goal and an assist. Max VanArsdale paced PSU with two goals and two assists.
In goal, Drew Adams posted 15 saves and the win, while Max Silberlicht battled the substandard lighting and still came away 11 stops.
The Statesmen carried the early play, outshooting their hosts 10-1 in the first five minutes. Unfortunately, the barrage only earned a 1-1 tie. The teams traded goals twice more before the end of the first quarter.
Penn State started the second quarter with back-to-back goals to build a 5-3 lead, but Hobart rallied with three of the next four scores to close out the first half.
Hobart broke a 6-6 halftime tie when first-year Mike Suits fired home his second goal of the season. The extra-man tally came just 17 seconds into the third quarter.
Penn State responded with back-to-back goals less than a minute apart to seize an 8-7 lead. Daryl Veltman appeared to forge another tie a short time later, but the goal was waived off by a crease violation. He was limited to just one first half goal, his team-leading 27th of the season.
The Nittany Lions struck once more before the end of the third quarter and three more times in the fourth quarter.
Hobart outshot Penn State 39-35, but the Lions held a 40-33 advantage in ground balls and a slim 12-11 edge at the faceoff X. Both teams scored once with the extra-man.
