GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College tennis team split two matches today on Day 1 of the Flower City Invitational in Rochester. The Statesmen fell to Rochester 5-0, before rebounding to defeat Nazareth 6-2.
Senior Charlie Davis (Manlius Pebble Hill School/Cazenovia, N.Y.) defeated Nazareth’s Jon Weaver 6-4, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, while first-year Harry King (Concord & Carlisle/Concord, Mass.) defeated Terrance Nichols at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-3. First-year Matt Chin (Hingham/Hingham, Mass.) and sophomore Jamie Flanigan (Colorado Academy/Denver, Colo.) also won their singles matches. Chin downed Golden Flyer Steve Trobert at No. 3 (6-1, 6-3), while Flanigan defeated Jerry Stocker at No. 5 (6-0, 6-0).
Winning at doubles for Hobart was junior Adam Cohn (Hawken School/Highland Heights, Ohio) and partner King. They won at second doubles with an 8-3 victory, while sophomore Will Faurot (Darien/Midlothian, Va.) and Flanigan teamed up to take third doubles, 8-2.
The Statesmen will be in action again tomorrow on Day 2 of the Flower City Invitational. They will take on the winner of today’s Ithaca/RIT match at 9 a.m.
